Artist in residence at Dyson Gymnastics Club
IN THIS PLACE… presents new artwork created by artists and residents celebrating the Clarendon area of Hove. Through residencies and workshops the project created opportunities to share experiences, make new connections and explore what this community means to the people that live here.
Commissioned through open call, artist Sara Hibbert immersed herself in this family run gymnastics club, observing their amazing talent, energy and dedication. Throughout the series, images are included of the coaches also. Inviting them to re-stage their support gestures, Sara overlays these abstractions with drawings created by gymnasts in response to the prompt ‘draw a skill as a continuous line’. The work can be seen large-scale in the windows of the new Hove Gardens building on Conway Street as well as on Dyson Gymnastics Club’s entry gates.
